Press TV host in US jail

Press TV’s journalist and anchor, Marzieh Hashemi, who had gone to pay a visit to his patient brother in the US, was arrested by the US government without any charge.

The mother of three and grandmother was arrested at the St Louis Lambert Airport and transferred to a detention center in Washington DC. The US government has come up with this reason: because she’s a material witness in a federal investigation, and a flight risk.

Marzieh Hashemi’s detention by the US government has raised questions about the freedom of speech and democracy in the US once more. Its claims about human rights; however, have proven to be hypocritical and lies several times.

Marzieh Hashemi was born in an African-American Christian family. Born in New Orleans, she opted for the name Marzieh Hashemi when she converted to Islam.

On her trip to visit her brother who has suffered cancer, she was arrested in the US soil. It was FBI agents that transferred Marzieh Hashemi to the detention center, where she was held for two days before she was given a phone call. But she was stripped of her hijab or Islamic covering for a photograph upon arrest and she was offered pork products.

At the request of the Justice Department, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell issued an order, which approved the partial unsealing of information in the case. It said Hashemi was arrested on a material witness warrant issued by a federal judge and that she was assigned an attorney but has not been accused of any crime.
